Testportal Alternatives for Training Businesses: A Switch-or-Stay Checklist

Most training businesses should stay on Testportal until a specific limit gets in the way. A Testportal alternative is worth the migration effort when you need something its published pages do not describe, such as LMS or single sign-on integration, shared authoring across a team, recorded proctoring, or a branded space for each client.

This post is a checklist first and a comparison second. It is based on each vendor’s own pricing, feature and help pages, read on October 12, 2026, not on hands-on testing. Where a page is silent we write “not published,” which means “ask the vendor,” not “missing.”

Prices and plan rules change often, so recheck them before you decide. One option in the comparison is published by the same company that publishes this blog, and it is labeled as such.

Key takeaways

  • Stay on Testportal if its plan caps, six question types and tab-switch monitoring fit your courses. Its top plan is inexpensive per result.
  • Most reasons to switch are gaps in published features: shared authoring on lower plans, LMS or SSO launch, matching-style questions, recorded proctoring and security attestations.
  • Price each tool in its own unit (results, credits, unique takers, started exams or responses). One sample month of 720 attempts costs from $25 to $129 on the four tools that publish prices, but the cheapest plans gate features.
  • Shortlist two tools, rebuild one real course in each, and get export answers in writing before you cancel anything.

What does Testportal already do well for training businesses?

Testportal’s own training page covers the core instructor-led loop: pre-tests, post-tests, practice tests, final exams with certificates, and evaluation surveys. It adds AI question generation, import from PDF and Word, and PDF, Excel and CSV results exports. For a small provider running that loop, it is a reasonable tool.

Some details matter in daily use. Respondents do not need an account, test time is measured on the server, and a training mode lets people retake a test any number of times without storing results. The AI generator accepts uploaded files or pasted text and is included in all business plans. Import from PDF, Word or plain text is also available to all business plan users.

Testportal also offers a 14-day free trial on its Standard, PRO and MAX plans, and its business pricing page says no card is required. If your assessments are mostly single-choice, multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer items delivered by link or access code, you may not need to leave.

When has a training business outgrown Testportal?

A training business has outgrown Testportal when a requirement lands in the “not published” part of its pages and no workaround is acceptable. The table lists nine checks, what Testportal’s own pages say as of October 2026, and the situation where each one justifies a switch.

CheckWhat Testportal publishes (October 2026)Switch if
Monthly volumeResults per month are capped: 30 on Standard ($35), 300 on PRO ($79), 3,000 on MAX ($129). MAX Customized is a quote starting at $159 with unlimited results. You regularly pass 3,000 results, or cannot predict volume and will not take a custom quote.
Shared authoringThe pricing page lists additional user accounts and collaboration on all plans, but a help article lists test sharing for EDU School, EDU University and MAX Customized only.Several subject-matter experts must build tests in one workspace on a lower plan and Testportal confirms they cannot.
Client brandingYour logo, brand colors and hidden Testportal logos. One page calls a custom subdomain standard for all users; another ties group-password subdomains to PRO and above. Each client needs its own branded environment, or you need a custom domain.
LMS and SSO launchDirect link, embedding, and an API for authorizations, starting tests and getting results. SCORM, LTI, SSO and webhooks are not mentioned on that page.Learners must launch from your LMS with single sign-on.
Question formats and banksSix types: single-choice, multiple-choice, true/false, short answer, survey, descriptive. No ready-made questions; a bank is a test you copy questions into. You need matching or hotspot items, or a dedicated item bank across many courses.
ProctoringTab-leave monitoring (“Honest Respondent Technology”), live supervision through Zoom, Webex or Google Meet, and AI proctoring marked “coming soon.” Webcam recording and lockdown browser are not listed.Exam stakes call for recorded video or review.
CertificatesEditable placeholders, signatures, and custom design on request. Expiry, verification and PDF output are not mentioned.Certificates must expire or be verifiable by employers.
Security paperworkHosted on Microsoft Azure, “GDPR ready” with a customized data processing agreement. ISO 27001, SOC 2 and data location are not listed.Customer questionnaires demand named attestations or a specific region.
Selling exam accessPayments and selling are not described on the pages we read. You charge for tests and want checkout built in.

Count the rows that apply to you. One or two usually deserve a written question to Testportal first, because its pages leave room for answers. Three or more justify a shortlist. For a longer vendor questionnaire, use our assessment platform RFP checklist for training providers.

How much proctoring does a training business actually need?

Many instructor-led providers need identity checks and design controls more than recorded video. Question randomization, time windows and in-room invigilation cover many course exams. Reserve recorded proctoring for high-stakes results that employers or regulators rely on. Our guide to proctoring for training providers shows how to score each exam before paying for more.

What would a Testportal alternative cost for the same month?

Price depends on the unit each vendor counts. Testportal counts results, ClassMarker counts credits, ProProfs counts unique active takers, Easy LMS counts started exams and FlexiQuiz counts responses. The table prices one sample month using only published prices as of October 2026.

The sample: 12 classes of 20 learners, each learner taking a pre-test, a post-test and a final exam. That is 240 people and 720 attempts. We assume one completed attempt equals one result, credit, response or started exam. Confirm each vendor’s counting rule, because retakes and practice runs may count differently.

ToolUnit countedPlan that covers the samplePublished monthly price
TestportalResults per monthMAX (3,000 cap); PRO’s 300 is too small$129, about $0.18 per attempt
ClassMarkerCredits (1 per test taken; camera monitoring uses 10)Professional 2 (up to 1,000 credits)Not shown in the page text we could read
ProProfs Quiz MakerActive quiz takers (unique people)240 people, or three blocks of 100$59.97 (3 x $19.99, our arithmetic); white label is a $300 yearly add-on
Easy LMSStarted courses or examsBasic (3,000 per month)$80
FlexiQuizResponses per monthPremium (2,000); Essentials’ 500 is too small$25
SimpliAssessNot publishedNot publishedNot published; demo request

The cheapest line is not automatically the best fit. FlexiQuiz lists APIs, webhooks and single sign-on on its Enterprise plan, and Easy LMS lists its API and webhooks under its $230 Advanced plan. ProProfs publishes its per-taker pricing openly, but counts people, so a course with many retakes costs less there than on a per-attempt meter.

Pro tip: Price Your Peak Month. Pull the last three months of attempts, including retakes and practice runs, and price the busiest month, not the average. Caps reset monthly, so one heavy certification month can push you into a higher plan.

Which Testportal alternative fits which training business?

No single alternative wins. ClassMarker is closest to Testportal’s self-serve model, ProProfs adds more question formats and standards, Easy LMS wraps exams in branded academies, FlexiQuiz suits tight budgets, and SimpliAssess suits providers who want assessments inside their own portal. Pick by the checks you failed above.

Where does SimpliAssess fit, and where does it not?

SimpliAssess is a white-label, API-first assessment platform. Its site publishes brand control, item banking, bulk import, test and examinee management, AI-driven test authoring, and payment gateway integration for selling tests. It suits providers who want assessments inside their own product. It is a poor fit if you want self-serve sign-up and published prices.

Its FAQ lists multiple-choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, essay and open-ended questions, and spreadsheet export of scores. Pricing is by contact, and no free trial is mentioned. You can read the training companies page for what it publishes, then ask for the missing details in a demo.

How do you move tests and results out of Testportal?

Start with what Testportal documents. Results export as PDF, Excel and CSV, and questions import from PDF, Word and text. The help pages we read describe no question export, so ask for one in writing. Ask the new vendor about QTI, the 1EdTech format for moving tests and questions between applications.

Step 1: Save results first. Export the results tables and per-respondent PDF sheets for every test you may need for audits. Testportal’s pricing FAQ says that when a subscription expires, tests are suspended but access to collected results remains. Keep your own copy anyway.

Step 2: Get the questions out. Ask Testportal support for a structured export. Its product pages say tests can be printed with an answer key, which is a fallback you can reformat for the new tool’s import. Check the question count after conversion.

Step 3: Rebuild one course. Move one course, run the same 20 questions in both tools, and compare scoring, feedback and certificate output. The ID crosswalk and pilot steps in our ClassMarker post apply here as well.

Pro tip: Test The Worst Course First. Migrate the course with your trickiest items, such as images, short-answer patterns and negative marking. If the new tool handles those, the simple courses will follow.

What should you do next?

Score the nine checks against your own courses and mark each as pass, fail or ask. Send the “ask” rows to Testportal in writing, since some of its answers may remove the need to switch. Keep the replies with your notes.

If three or more rows fail, pick two tools from the table and run a one-week trial with one real course. Measure setup time, branding effort, export quality and how often you needed support.

If your problem is wider than tests, such as scheduling sessions and trainers or tracking attendance, SimpliTrain describes itself as a training management system with a built-in LMS. You can request a SimpliTrain demo to see whether it fits.

Frequently asked questions

Is Testportal free?

Not for business use. Its business pricing page shows four paid plans and a 14-day free trial on Standard, PRO and MAX, with no card required. The page’s FAQ mentions a separate free, limited plan for teachers, which is detailed on its education pricing page. Check the live page, because plans change.

How much does Testportal cost?

As of October 2026, the business page shows $35, $79 and $129 per month for 30, 300 and 3,000 results. A MAX Customized plan with unlimited results starts at $159 by quote. The page shows only monthly prices, so ask Testportal about annual billing if you want to prepay.

Does Testportal support SCORM or LMS integration?

Its integrations page lists a direct link, embedding and an API that lets your system authorize respondents, start tests and get results. It does not mention SCORM, LTI, SSO or webhooks. If you launch tests from an LMS, ask Testportal how that works before you commit.

Does Testportal offer white labeling?

Its customization page says you can hide Testportal logos and present assessments under your own brand, with a custom logo and subdomain. A help article ties group-password subdomains to EDU, PRO, MAX and MAX Customized plans. Confirm in writing what your plan includes.

What is the best Testportal alternative for a training company?

It depends on which limit you hit. ClassMarker is the closest self-serve match, ProProfs adds question types and standards, Easy LMS suits branded academies, FlexiQuiz suits tight budgets, and SimpliAssess suits assessments embedded in your own product. Choose by your failed checks, not by price alone.

Can I export my questions from Testportal?

The help pages we read describe importing questions from PDF, Word and text, and exporting results as PDF, Excel and CSV. They describe no question export. Product pages mention printing tests with an answer key. Ask support for a structured export before you cancel.

Does Testportal proctor with a webcam?

Not according to its security page. It lists tab-leave monitoring, live supervision through Zoom, Webex or Google Meet, and AI proctoring marked “coming soon.” Webcam recording is not listed. Recheck the page, since the roadmap item may have shipped since October 2026.
